Striving to be a Teacher who Explains Science Clearly, Based on Experiments and Natural Observations

In this major, we aim to cultivate educators with scientific thinking, descriptive skills, and presentation abilities, capable of promoting science education focused on experiments and observations in middle and high schools. The curriculum covers the essential subjects for middle and high school science teachers, including physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, and science education, ranging from fundamental to advanced courses. Students engage in experiments, observations, exercises, as well as teaching internships and practical experiences to acquire the necessary skills and mindset for becoming science teachers. The program also includes a graduation research project where students delve deeply into one specific field. We seek individuals with the ability to objectively observe natural phenomena, think critically about established logic, possess a solid grounding in mathematics, and demonstrate disciplined and patient thinking. We expect dedicated students who, after building a solid foundation in science and mathematics, also excel in essential communication skills required for future educators.

Characteristics of Major

In the subject of science in middle and high schools, the major goal is to understand the essence of nature within the framework of natural science. Everything happening around us, the substances present in our surroundings, the Earth we inhabit, the entire cosmos, and even the human body itself fall within the scope of natural science. Therefore, the Middle School Science Major aims to foster educators equipped with broad foundational knowledge and a deep understanding of specialized fields in natural science. Through lectures, experiments, various observations, internships, and graduation research, we produce graduates who possess excellent abilities and character.

Curriculum Features

The curriculum covers foundational subject content in all science fields, along with the study of educational methods such as teaching materials and program development. In the process of delving deeper into one specific field, students enhance their scientific thinking, descriptive skills, and presentation abilities. The education provided connects directly to the educational field, ranging from basic experiments to advanced measurements and observations using state-of-the-art physical and chemical instruments, as well as various field surveys. From the second year, each student chooses a primary field of study, and from the third year, they are assigned to either the physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, science education, or educational technology domain. In the fourth year, students undertake graduation research as the culmination of their learning and research activities, fostering a collaborative learning environment between students and faculty.
